PlayStation 4 has sold over 40 million units worldwide as of May 22, Sony announced today
PlayStation 4 console sales pass 40 million
Those figures are sold-through to customers, not sold-in to retail. In other words, there are over 40M PS4 consoles in homes across the world.
PS4 games, both first and third-party titles, have sold 270.9 million copies at retail globally and through digital downloads on the PS Store.
“We are truly grateful for the enormous support from our fans and partners across the globe, which helped us achieve this significant milestone in such a short span of time,” said Sony president and CEO Andrew House in a prepared statement.
“We will strive to deliver even more exciting gaming experiences to our users, further driving the momentum and accelerating the expansion of the PS4 platform and its business this fiscal year by offering an unparalleled line-up of games, bringing our virtual reality system, PlayStation VR, to market and providing ground-breaking features and network services.”
Sony also reiterated that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End sold 2.7 million during its first week of availability.
In its mosty recent financial report, the firm forcasted another 20 million PS4 units to be sold by the end of its 2017 fiscal year.
